"Barriers to Recognition and Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia in the Primary Care Setting"

Barriers to Recognition
Rheumatologists and other specialists are increasingly deferring the diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia (FM) to primary care providers (PCPs). “Barriers to Recognition and Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia in the Primary Care Setting,” a CME/CE activity developed by the University of Michigan and OptumHealth Education in collaboration with the National Fibromyalgia Association, was  developed specifically for PCPs. The program will review of barriers to the recognition and diagnosis of fibromyalgia in the primary care setting, as well as provide the components necessary for appropriate detection, diagnosis and management of FM. This free, live, interactiveCME/CE activity will be broadcast by satellite and available through the internet and via phone on Wednesday, Oct. 7.  Bill H McCarberg, MD, Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Deigo and founder of the Chronic Pain Management Program for Kaiser Permanente, will moderate this activity, which will be presented by Daniel J. Clauw, MD, a rheumatologist and Professor of Anesthesiology and Medicine at the University of Michigan, and Philip J. Mease, MD, a rheumatologist and Chief of Rheumatology Research at the Swedish Medical Center and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington.
